What's different about 2026
- Two mileage rates. 72.5¢ per mile through June 30, then 76¢ from July 1. Keep two subtotals in your mileage log.
- Tips deduction. App-based delivery and rideshare drivers can deduct up to $25,000 of qualified tips from federal income tax. It does not reduce the 15.3% self-employment tax, and many states still tax tips.
- Fewer 1099 forms. Platforms only have to send a 1099-NEC once they pay you $2,000. Your income is taxable either way.
Why trust these numbers?
GigTaxHQ is run by Jin Jeong, who delivered full time for DoorDash in Vancouver, Canada from 2019 to 2026 and learned about self-employment tax by paying a big bill all at once. That experience is Canadian, so every US figure here comes from the IRS or the state's own revenue department, and the Canada section uses the CRA and the BC government. Every page lists its sources, every formula is published on our methodology page, and changes are logged on our corrections page. Read our story.
